Reflecting on Peace: Setting the Foundation for Growth in the New Year

Jan 5 / Emily Spillman
As we step into a new year, it's natural to contemplate the journey we've traversed and the lessons learned along the way. Last year, my chosen word was "Peace," and little did I know the profound impact it would have on reshaping my perspective and guiding my actions.

Choosing a word for the year isn't just a trendy resolution; it's a mindful commitment to focus on a specific theme or intention. For me, "Peace" served as a compass, directing me to evaluate the elements in my life that were no longer contributing positively. It prompted a conscious effort to let go of what no longer served my well-being and make room for what aligned with my values and goals.

The pursuit of peace wasn't about avoiding challenges but rather facing them with a calm and centered mindset. This involved a process of decluttering, both mentally and physically, and finding solace in simplicity. Through this journey, I discovered that true peace arises when we align our actions with our authentic selves.

Now, as I embark on a new year, my chosen word is "Growth." The groundwork laid in the pursuit of peace has provided a stable foundation for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Growth isn't just about achieving external success; it's about evolving personally and professionally.

It's crucial to resist the allure of the "new year, new me" rhetoric. Instead, let's reflect on the genuine progress made and the lessons learned. If last year's strategies didn't yield the desired results, it's an opportunity to pivot and refine our approach.

A key insight gained is that certain goals, like fat loss, are better approached as by-products of a holistic lifestyle rather than isolated pursuits. Managing facets such as relationships, career, and purpose contributes to overall well-being, creating a fertile ground for achieving various objectives.

As you embark on your journey into the new year, consider choosing a word that resonates with your aspirations and values. What will guide your actions and decisions throughout the year? Share your thoughts and intentions with those around you, creating a supportive environment for growth and self-discovery.

So, what's your word for the year? As for me, it's "Growth,"
